The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force recently concluded Exercise POORVI PRAHAR, a nine-day joint military drill that provides insight into the nation’s cutting-edge warfighting capabilities and preparation. Conducted in near-real combat conditions, the exercise highlighted seamless coordination across the services, validating joint structures in intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, mobilization, deployment, and logistics. The exercise showcased the advanced combat prowess of the Indian Armed Forces, integrating high-tech precision strike capabilities with evolved civil-military collaboration to ensure mission success.
Key leaders, including Lt Gen RC Tiwari, UYSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, and Air Marshal IS Walia, AVSM, VM, Senior Staff Administrative Officer of Eastern Air Command, actively participated in the exercise. They observed offensive maneuvers in challenging mountainous terrain, supported by modern weaponry. Lt Gen Tiwari lauded the troops for their adaptive efforts, emphasizing the importance of robust joint structures to enhance synergy between the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
For the first time, large-scale integrated operations were conducted across air, land, and sea in the Eastern Theatre. Advanced systems like the M-777 Howitzer, the Navy's P-8I Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft, swarm drones, First Person View (FPV) drones, and loitering munitions were employed. State-of-the-art helicopters such as the Chinook and Light Combat Helicopter Prachand further enhanced operational efficiency.
The exercise highlighted the Indian Armed Forces' ability to conduct complex, multi-domain operations. It showcased the seamless integration of "third-dimensional" warfare, capitalizing on new-generation equipment to execute precision strikes in difficult terrain and dense electronic warfare environments. Special forces operations included tri-services combat free falls on high-value objectives, underlining their advanced capabilities.
Exercise POORVI PRAHAR stands as a testament to India’s commitment to maintaining a robust defense posture. The exercise reinforced the operational readiness of the armed forces and showcased their preparedness to address future security challenges.
