ICC T-20 WORLD CUP: Know everything about the T-20 World Cup starting from today
The seventh T20 World Cup is starting in Oman and UAE from Sunday. For the first time this tournament is being played in Oman and UAE. These matches will run till October 22, after which the Super-12 round will start from October 23 and the final will be played on 14th November.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is starting from today i.e. Sunday, October 17. After a long wait of five years, the time has come once again to decide the world champion in the shortest format of the game. The seventh T20 World Cup is starting in Oman and UAE from Sunday. For the first time this tournament is being played in Oman and UAE.
Although the tournament was to be held in India, it was decided to shift it to Oman and UAE due to the situation of Covid-19. However, despite this, the tournament is hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The last World Cup held in 2016 was also held in India. The World Cup to be held in Australia in 2020 had to be postponed for two years due to Corona and now it will be in 2022. Now let's talk about the tournament.
The T20 World Cup is starting from the Qualifier stage, from where the teams will move to the Super-12 stage. There are already 8 teams in Super-12, which had qualified on the basis of ranking. This time there are new teams like Oman and Papua New Guinea in the qualifiers, while strong teams like 2014 champions Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are also caught in this fray.
The first match of the tournament will be played between Oman and Papua New Guinea (Oman vs PNG) on Sunday, while the second match will be played between Scotland and Bangladesh in the evening itself. These matches will run till October 22, after which the Super-12 round will start from October 23 and the final will be played on 14th November.
