The Indian Army’s biannual Army Commanders’ Conference is being held in New Delhi from April 1 to April 4, 2025. This event brings together senior military leaders to discuss national security, border protection, organizational improvements, and technological advancements in defence.
On the third day, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh addressed the leadership, reaffirming the nation’s trust in the Indian Army. He praised the Army for its dedication to protecting the country, fighting terrorism, and assisting civil authorities during emergencies. “The Army plays a crucial role in security, disaster relief, medical assistance, and maintaining peace within the country. Its contributions to nation-building are unmatched,” he said.
Security Challenges and Future Warfare
Shri Rajnath Singh spoke about the changing global security situation and the new challenges facing India. He explained that future conflicts will involve not just traditional military battles but also cyberattacks, information warfare, and disruptions in trade and finance. “In today’s world, incidents happening anywhere can affect everyone. Our Armed Forces must be prepared for this evolving nature of warfare,” he emphasized. He urged the Army to adopt a flexible and forward-thinking approach to security planning while using modern technology for intelligence and defence strategies.
Border Security and Military Readiness
The Raksha Mantri applauded the troops stationed along the Northern borders for their vigilance and acknowledged the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for improving road connectivity in difficult terrains.
On the Western border, he praised the Army’s strong response to cross-border terrorism but noted that adversaries continue to use proxy warfare. “The excellent coordination between the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and the police in Jammu and Kashmir has led to increased stability in the region,” he stated.
He also paid tribute to the brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the country and assured that the government remains committed to supporting their families.
Strengthening Defence Diplomacy and Self-Reliance
Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted the Army’s role in fostering diplomatic ties with foreign militaries and emphasized the importance of Defence Attaches in strengthening international relations.
He also commended the Army’s progress in developing and adopting new technologies in partnership with Indian industries and academic institutions. “The goal of ‘Modernisation through Indigenisation’ or ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ is being achieved step by step. Continuous engagement with emerging technologies is crucial,” he noted, referencing discussions with NITI Aayog on the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Commitment to Soldiers and Future-Ready Forces
The Raksha Mantri reiterated the government’s dedication to the well-being of veterans and the families of fallen soldiers, saying, “The nation will always be grateful for their sacrifices.”
He concluded by stressing the importance of ongoing discussions on defence diplomacy, self-reliance, cybersecurity, and military modernisation. “Our Armed Forces must keep evolving to remain prepared for future challenges. The recommendations from this conference should be followed through with regular reviews. The government is fully committed to supporting the Army in its journey of reform and modernisation,” he assured.
