India and the United States have come together once again for the fourth edition of Tiger TRIUMPH, a joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise. The event, which started on April 1 aboard the Indian Navy’s INS Jalashwa (L41), aims to strengthen the coordination between the two nations in responding to large-scale disasters. This exercise is a testament to the growing partnership between India and the U.S. in maritime security and disaster response.

The exercise is divided into two parts: the harbor phase and the sea phase. The harbor phase, taking place in Visakhapatnam from April 1-7, includes planning discussions, training activities, and expert sessions on special operations, emergency medical response, and modern warfare across air, sea, cyber, and space domains. To further strengthen ties between the forces, cultural exchanges and sports activities are also being conducted.

The sea phase, scheduled from April 8-12, will focus on practical training for disaster relief and rescue operations at sea. This will conclude with a joint humanitarian relief and medical camp after an amphibious landing at Kakinada.

Who is Participating?

India has deployed key naval ships, including INS Jalashwa, INS Mumbai, INS Gharial, and INS Shakti. These are supported by P-8I maritime reconnaissance aircraft, MH-60R helicopters, and Hawk aircraft. The Indian Army is contributing an Infantry Battalion group with Mechanised Forces, while Special Operations Forces from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with cyber and space specialists, are also part of the exercise. The Indian Air Force is participating with C-130 aircraft, Mi-17 V5 helicopters, and air-portable BHISMA medical equipment.

On the U.S. side, the task force includes the dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45), which carries U.S. Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) and a P-8A Poseidon aircraft are also taking part. The U.S. Space Force and Air Force are contributing experts and a C-130J aircraft, while the U.S. Army is involved with a platoon, medical platoon, Civil-Military Operations Center, and Multi-Domain Task Force Information Cell.

Tiger TRIUMPH 2025 highlights the growing cooperation between India and the U.S. in handling humanitarian crises and disaster relief efforts in the Indo-Pacific region. By working together, both countries are improving their ability to respond quickly and effectively in times of need. (PR)
