Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, in a message shared from his Camp Office in Nigeria, congratulated the successful organization of the maiden maritime event, Sagarmanthan – The Ocean’s Dialogue. The event, held in the national capital, brought global attention to the critical role oceans play in international trade, security, and profitability. PM Modi, emphasizing the significance of maritime networks, stated, "Our vision for a free, open, and secure maritime network – from the Indian Ocean to the Indo-Pacific – is resonating worldwide."He highlighted the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, which views marine resources as pivotal to the economic growth of nations.

The Prime Minister noted that the dialogue would not only strengthen a rules-based global order but also encourage peace, trust, and friendship among countries. He also brings out the importance of such dialogues in realizing India’s goal of becoming a Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047, building unity, and forming partnerships for a golden global future. PM Modi reflected on India’s long maritime tradition, mentioning ancient port cities like Lothal and Dholavira, the powerful fleets of the Chola dynasty, and the naval exploits of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. "Oceans are a shared heritage for nations and societies and serve as lifelines for international trade," he said, adding that the security and prosperity of nations are closely tied to oceans.

The Prime Minister outlined several transformative steps India has taken to strengthen its maritime capabilities, particularly in port development. Over the past decade, guided by initiatives such as Ports of Prosperity, Ports for Progress, and Ports for Productivity, India has doubled its port capacity. PM Modi highlighted the country’s efforts to enhance port efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and strengthen last-mile connectivity through expressways, railways, and river networks.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister's message, acknowledging India’s ongoing transformation under PM Modi's leadership. He said, “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is witnessing a maritime revolution. His message embodies the very essence of the Sagarmanthan forum, which focuses on collaboration and collective effort for prosperity.” Minister Sonowal also praised the success of Sagarmanthan as a thought leadership platform, emphasizing its role in guiding India’s maritime future.

“We extend our deepest appreciation to PM Modi for his visionary words, which will inspire the success of this forum and further India’s maritime agenda,” he said. The inaugural Sagarmanthan – The Ocean’s Dialogue is a significant step toward building up maritime partnerships and encouraging a collaborative approach to global ocean governance.
