Indian Army Successfully Thwarts Terror Ambush in Jammu’s Battal Region

In the dense jungles of Battal, Jammu, the Indian Army, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and the Special Operations Group (SOG), successfully foiled a pre-dawn terror ambush on October 28, 2024. This operation resulted in the elimination of three terrorists and was conducted with no casualties among the Indian forces, demonstrating a swift and precise response from the troops amidst challenging night-time conditions.

During an official press briefing, Maj Gen Sameer Srivastava, VSM, GOC of the 10 RAPID, along with Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, and Brig Kapil Taneja, VSM, Commander of the 28 Infantry Brigade, highlighted the operational success and synergy among forces. They emphasized that effective local intelligence and community support played a pivotal role in the mission. The swift mobilization of Special Forces further ensured that the fleeing militants were cordoned off, with advanced technology such as night surveillance devices, unmanned ground vehicles, and drones providing real-time tracking and closing potential escape routes.

 In a tribute to the bravery involved, Maj Gen Srivastava acknowledged the ultimate sacrifice of Army Dog Phantom, who sustained fatal injuries during the operation. The General underscored the Army’s commitment to peace and stability in the region, adding that the operation exemplifies the resolve to protect and maintain security in Jammu and Kashmir.

In response to circulating rumors on social media, Maj Gen Srivastava clarified the use of armored BMP vehicles, confirming they were employed to encircle the ambushed area and prevent militant escape while upholding all protocols for a professional operation. The Indian Army maintained respect for the mortal remains of the slain terrorists, Maj Gen Srivastava emphasized.
The security forces recovered an extensive cache of arms, ammunition, and supplies, underscoring the strategic preparedness of the militants. This included an M4 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, magazines, a pistol, and over 200 rounds of ammunition of varying calibers. Additionally, they seized surveillance equipment, a solar panel, survival gear, and medical supplies. Personal items included a red notepad, a digital Casio watch, various food packets, and tools, indicating the group was well-equipped for prolonged operations.
