In a bold stride toward enhancing national security and safeguarding India’s maritime frontiers, the Indian Navy has launched its first-ever set of Hackathon Challenges as part of Swavlamban 2024. The event, spearheaded by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, was organized by the Indian Navy's premier Research and Development organization, WESEE (Weapons and Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment).
The hackathon is a clarion call to the Nation’s brightest minds, innovators, tech experts, and problem-solvers to tackle cutting-edge challenges that address real-world issues faced by naval forces.
Five transformative problem statements have been identified, each holding the potential to revolutionize the way the Navy operates. The five key challenges include:
1. Speech Separation: Develop an AI/ML-based solution to separate and identify speech from 4 to 7 people speaking simultaneously, while also eliminating background noise.
2. Drone Swarm Coordination: Create a decentralized system for the coordinated control of autonomous drones in reconnaissance and surveillance missions.
3. Navigation and Real-time Tracking of Flying Objects: Design an optical flow tracking algorithm with sub-pixel accuracy to enhance navigation and real-time tracking in dynamic environments.
4. Application Load Balancer on OpenStack: Build a cloud-native load balancer for OpenStack platforms, featuring dynamic traffic distribution, high availability, and fault tolerance.
5. Maritime Situational Awareness: Develop a system to scan and analyze textual maritime reports, extract contact details, and plot them on a radar/map.
This pioneering event offers a total prize pool of INR 25 lakhs, with INR 3 lakhs for the first-place winner and INR 2 lakhs for the runner-up in each category. In addition to monetary prizes, the winners will gain an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with WESEE and other Naval development teams, potentially seeing their solutions implemented in real-world naval applications.
With the submission window closing at 18:00 on 26th October 2024, the Indian Navy is gearing up for an exciting journey of innovation. The award distribution ceremony is set to take place on 29th October 2024 at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, where the nation will celebrate the ingenuity and dedication of its brightest problem-solvers.
