The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), demanding urgent action on the dilapidated state of the Kohima-Jessami road, particularly the Chakhabama-Kikruma stretch under Package-II.
In a letter addressed to the General Manager of NHIDCL, the CSU highlighted the years of suffering endured by the public due to the hazardous conditions of the road, which continues to pose significant dangers to commuters. The road’s poor state, marked by frequent blockages and potholes, has led to growing dissatisfaction among locals.
The CSU has called on NHIDCL to take immediate steps to address three critical issues:
1. Clear Road Blockages: Remove landslides and other obstructions hindering vehicle movement.
2. Repair Potholes: Ensure smooth travel by filling the potholes along the route.
3. Improve Drainage: Install adequate drainage systems to prevent further deterioration.
The union warned that failure to meet these demands within the given 48-hour window would result in them taking their own measures, holding NHIDCL accountable for any consequences that arise.
The letter, signed by CSU President Phullo Sara and General Secretary Kuzoto Swuro, urges NHIDCL to act with utmost seriousness and urgency. Copies of the ultimatum were sent to key officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Phek, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Pfutsero, and the President of the Chakhesang Public Organization.
This move comes as public frustration over the road’s condition reaches new heights, with calls for long-term solutions and safety improvements. (pr)
