In a commendable initiative to promote food security and nutrition awareness, the Indian Army celebrated World Food Day on October 16, 2024, by conducting a series of welfare activities across Churachandpur, Imphal West, and Tengnoupal districts in Manipur.
The focal point of the commemoration was an awareness lecture held at the Government J B School in S Nabil Village, Churachandpur. The session underscored the significance of nutritious food for a healthy lifestyle and encouraged the community to utilize locally available resources along with self-reliant farming techniques, including organic farming practices.
Further outreach activities were organized in Tengnoupal and Imphal West districts, notably at T Yangnom Village in Moreh and Khurkul Village in Imphal West. These events attracted participation from over 200 villagers from nearby areas, including B Mounnaveng and Lhangkichoi villages. Attendees engaged in discussions that highlighted various government initiatives aimed at improving food security, including the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, the National Food Security Act (NFSA), and the Mid Day Meal Scheme.
These initiatives not only foster awareness about food security but also reflect the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to supporting local communities, contributing to their long-term growth and resilience.(PR)
