As part of a National Integration Tour, nine Youth Ambassadors from Manipur visited Kolkata, where they had the opportunity to explore the city’s rich cultural heritage and key military establishments. The tour aims to foster unity and understanding by exposing the youth to the diversity of India’s culture and the role of the Indian Army.
During their two-day stay in Kolkata, the Youth Ambassadors visited several iconic locations, including the Victoria Memorial. They also participated in a Heritage Walk at Fort William and visited Kitchener House, the Headquarters of Eastern Command, as well as the Eastern Command Museum.
Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari, UYSM, AVSM, SM, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command, personally welcomed the group. In a warm interaction, Lt Gen Tiwari encouraged the aspirations of the young ambassadors and emphasized the importance of national unity.
The tour, which began on 14 October 2024, was flagged off by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division from Koirengei in Imphal East district of Manipur. In the next phase of their journey, the Youth Ambassadors will visit Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, where they will explore historical landmarks and pay homage at the Tawang War Memorial, commemorating the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1962 Indo-China War.
This initiative provides the youth from Manipur with a unique opportunity to engage with the Army, explore different cultures, and build connections. The experience is expected to leave a lasting impression, enhancing their understanding of India’s diverse heritage and the role of the military in national integration.(PR)
