DG Paramesh Sivamani Appointed as 26th Director General of Indian Coast Guard

DG Paramesh Sivamani has officially assumed charge as the 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), bringing with him more than three and a half decades of experience in maritime operations. His appointment follows an illustrious career during which he served in a variety of key roles, both at sea and onshore.

DG Sivamani, a specialist in Navigation & Direction, has commanded all major ICG vessels, including the Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel Samar and the Offshore Patrol Vessel Vishwast. His leadership extended to several major ICG regions, having previously held the positions of Commander of Coast Guard Region (East), Commander of Coast Guard Region (West), and Coast Guard Commander of the Eastern Seaboard.

An alumnus of the National Defence College in New Delhi and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, DG Sivamani was elevated to the rank of Additional Director General in September 2022. In August 2024, he was given additional charge as the Director General at the ICG Headquarters in New Delhi.

During his tenure, several high-profile operations were conducted under his leadership, including the seizure of drugs and gold worth crores of rupees, rescues during severe cyclonic storms, and joint exercises with foreign coast guards. His efforts also contributed to anti-poaching operations, humanitarian assistance during natural disasters, and coastal security exercises.

In recognition of his service, DG Sivamani has been the recipient of numerous awards. These include the prestigious Tatrakshak Medal in 2014 and the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2019. He was also awarded the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009.

DG Sivamani’s leadership is expected to further bolster the ICG's maritime safety and security initiatives as he takes over the top post.(PR)
