Formerly known as the Chief Minister's Trophy for Football and Volleyball, the tournament was renamed in 2017 in honor of Hangpan Dada, a Havildar from Tirap district who made the ultimate sacrifice during a fierce encounter with terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir. "The government will continue to provide additional funds beyond the current budget to the Sports Department to further encourage our youth in sports. We have declared 2024 as the 'Year of Youth,'" said Mein.
He also announced the upcoming construction of a multi-purpose outdoor stadium at General Ground, Namsai, and two national-standard football stadiums in Namsai and Chongkham, which will create a robust infrastructure for sports training and competitions, potentially hosting national events in the future.
Mein further highlighted plans for a state-level football tournament to be organized by the Arunachal Football Federation in honor of Late Indrajit Namchoom, the state's first national football player.
Expressing pride in the capabilities of Arunachal Pradesh’s young talents, Mein assured that the government would leave no stone unturned in nurturing and supporting budding athletes.
