The impending rockfall on the Kohima-Jessami road, particularly along Package-II between Chakhabama and Kikruma near the Sedzü River, has sparked serious concerns among commuters and the local population. The deteriorating condition of this stretch has now escalated into a potential death trap, with daily travelers expressing fears for their safety.

Despite numerous appeals from various organizations and concerned individuals, urging the contractor, M/S Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., to address the hazardous conditions, there has been no visible response or action. The continued neglect has been widely criticized as an act of disrespect and insult to the public's well-being.

The Kohima-Jessami road Package-II has been in a deplorable state for an extended period, forcing the public to endure severe hardships. For many, traveling on this stretch has become nothing short of a nightmare. The patience of the public, which has been silently bearing the brunt of these inconveniences while awaiting the project's completion, is now wearing thin as the road’s condition continues to deteriorate.

In light of the ongoing negligence, the National People's Party (NPP) Phek district has issued a strong demand for immediate action. They have called upon the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to terminate the current contract with M/S Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., as recommended by the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) of Phek district in their order No. DCPK/LR/2-LANE/GEN/1/2021/171 dated 13th June 2024.

The NPP Phek district insists that a new tender should be called without any further delay to ensure that the necessary road improvements are carried out promptly and efficiently.

This demand was officially issued by the Media Cell of NPP Phek district in a press release dated 9 August 2024, as frustration and concern continue to grow among those affected by the dangerous conditions of the Kohima-Jessami road. (PR)
