In a significant development today, peaceful re-polling was conducted at Polling Station 4 of Ward No. 20 under the Dimapur Municipal Council.
The re-polling process, which started at 7:30 AM, proceeded smoothly and concluded at 4:00 PM, with a commendable voter turnout of 76.33%.
The State Election Commission has expressed its appreciation for the District Administration and law enforcement agencies, acknowledging their efforts in ensuring an orderly and incident-free voting process. With this re-polling, the overall voter turnout across all municipalities now stands at 81.98%.
This re-polling follows the urban local body elections held on June 26, 2024, which took place after a two-decade hiatus. The initial polling was marred by instances of violence and significant breaches of the Model Code of Conduct by some ruling legislators in Nagaland.
Looking ahead, the vote counting is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 29, 2024, beginning at 8:00 AM at all designated counting centers, as previously announced by the authorities. (PR)
