IIT Guwahati will Host 10th edition of IISF from 30th November

This year’s festival will include “Chandrayaan - The Museum of the Moon,” an artistic model by British artist Dr. Luke Jerram, emphasizing India’s Chandrayaan mission and its lunar achievements.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is set to host the 10th edition of the India International Science Festival (IISF) from November 30 to December 4, 2024. This premier event, themedTransforming India into an S&T-driven Global Manufacturing Hub,aims to spotlight India’s advancements in science and technology while encouraging innovation and collaboration.

Organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with coordination from the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), IISF is backed by various ministries, scientific departments, and Vijnana Bharati, a science movement that started this annual festival in 2015. This year marks the festival's debut in North East India.

IISF is not just a platform for scientists—it aims to make science available to everyone, combining education with entertainment. Over the years, it has materialized as the largest science event in the country, bringing together students, researchers, policymakers, and the general public.

This year’s festival will includeChandrayaan - The Museum of the Moon,an artistic model by British artist Dr. Luke Jerram, emphasizing India’s Chandrayaan mission and its lunar achievements. A Mega Science and Technology Exhibition will show the nation’s scientific advancements, with contributions from institutions across India.

The focussed events at IISF are:

  • Pragya Bharat: Spotlights cutting-edge technologies like AI, robotics, and quantum computing to propel India’s growth.  
  • Nari Shakti: Stresses women’s participation in STEM and entrepreneurship.  
  • S&T Hackathon: Promotes innovative ideas from students to achieve India’s development goals.  
  • Young Scientists Conclave: Offers opportunities for young researchers to engage with India’s scientific policies and advancements.

Cultural and Regional Emphasis at IISF 2024 are:

  • North East Cultural Fest & Food Street: Emphasizes the diverse traditions and cuisines of North East India.  
  • Science Odyssey of the North East: Addresses regional challenges in science and technology.

Other Highlights at IISF are:

  • Fusion Forum: Focuses on nuclear energy applications.  
  • Thought Leaders Round Table: Brings policymakers and industry leaders together.  
  • Science Safari: Integrates learning with fun through science-based games and toys.  
  • Saga of Science Chronicles: A light show narrating India’s scientific history and achievements.

IISF 2024 will also include discussions on international collaborations, sustainable development, and science communication. The Vision Sansad session will unite leaders from scientific organizations to advance research and policy development.
