On November 25, 2024, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) made a huge drug bust in the Andaman Seas. They blocked a Myanmarese fishing boat called Soe Wai Yan Htoo, which was moving around 5,500 kilograms of methamphetamine. This is the largest drug seizure ever made by the ICG.

The operation started when an ICG Dornier aircraft, on a routine management flight, noticed a boat acting suspiciously. The details were directly given to the Joint Operation Centre, which sent a Fast Patrol Vessel from Sri Vijaya Puram to stop the boat.

At 6:30 am on November 24, 2024, ICG officials boarded the boat, which was about eight nautical miles off Barren Island in Indian waters. They found that the boat was bringing six crew members from Myanmar. After searching the boat, the ICG team found a large quantity of methamphetamine, as well as a portable satellite phone.

The boat was then brought to Sri Vijaya Puram for another investigation. The seizure highlights the ICG’s dedication to protecting India’s waters and stopping illegal drugs from entering the country.

This process shows how the Indian Coast Guard plays a crucial role in stopping illegal activities at sea and keeping India’s maritime borders safe. (PR)
