In a bid to enhance maritime awareness and foster stronger ties with the youth and civil society of the North-Eastern region, the Indian Navy has embarked on a Motorcycle Expedition across three key states—Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. The expedition, which runs from 14 to 30 October 2024, is designed to showcase the Indian Navy's presence and its career opportunities, particularly highlighting the Agnipath Scheme for aspiring youth.
Building on past successful engagements in the Northeast in 2022 and Leh/Ladakh in 2023, this initiative aims to deepen outreach efforts in the region. The expedition includes visits to schools and colleges, where Navy officers will conduct awareness drives to inform students about the various career paths available in the Navy.
One of the key pillars of this initiative is the emphasis on Nari Shakti (women empowerment). Women Officers, along with spouses of naval personnel, are participating in the expedition, reinforcing the Navy's commitment to gender equality. The initiative also includes interactions with naval veterans and Veer Naris (wives of fallen soldiers) in the region, honoring their contributions and sacrifices.
The expedition involves 40 Indian Naval personnel, including officers, sailors, and family members, who will traverse a distance of approximately 2,500 kilometers over 15 days. The route passes through various cities across Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, further strengthening ties with local communities.
The Indian Navy expressed gratitude to TVS Motor Company for providing vehicle support for this outreach program, facilitating smooth passage through challenging terrains.
This initiative is part of the Navy’s larger goal to connect with citizens in remote regions, ensuring that the Indian Navy is not only a symbol of national defense but also a beacon of opportunity for India’s youth.(PR)
