In a testament to India’s ongoing commitment to maritime security and regional cooperation, Indian Naval Ship (INS) Suvarna recently concluded a collaborative visit to Port Louis, Mauritius, following a successful joint surveillance operation with the Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG). The operation, aimed at securing Mauritius’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), included coordinated efforts with NCG Ship CGS Victory and Dornier aircraft to ensure maritime safety and stability in the region.
INS Suvarna's Commanding Officer, Commander Lalit Yadav, engaged in significant diplomatic and strategic meetings during the visit. Cdr Yadav met with senior officials, including the Commandant of the NCG, the Commissioner of Police, and the Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, strengthening ties and reinforcing India’s support for the island nation’s maritime security needs.
The Indian crew conducted critical NBCD (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defense) and QRT (Quick Reaction Team) training sessions for NCG personnel, fostering enhanced skills in tackling high-risk scenarios. The team capped off these exercises with a friendly volleyball match, showcasing camaraderie and solidarity.
In addition to military engagement, INS Suvarna’s crew also participated in community service, visiting a local old age home to offer support and connect with local citizens, demonstrating India's dedication to deepening people-to-people ties beyond formal diplomatic exchanges.
After the port visit, INS Suvarna embarked on a special mission, towing the Mauritius Coast Guard Ship (MCGS) Valiant back to India. MCGS Valiant is set for her maiden refit at Mumbai’s Naval Dockyard, where she will undergo comprehensive maintenance and upgrades, further cementing India’s role as a key maritime partner for Mauritius.
INS Suvarna's successful visit emphasizes India’s commitment to regional stability and its strong maritime bonds with Mauritius, contributing to a safe and secure Indian Ocean Region. (X)
