INS Talwar Arrives at La Réunion, Strengthens India-France Maritime Partnership

The Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Talwar, arrived at La Réunion on October 27 as part of her ongoing deployment in the Indian Ocean Region. The visit aims to reinforce the strong partnership between India and France in addressing regional maritime security challenges.
During the port visit, INS Talwar will conduct cross-deck visits and engage in interactions with the French Navy, reflecting the nations’ commitment to deepening naval cooperation. To further strengthen ties with the Indian diaspora, the ship was opened for visits by members of the Pravasi Bharatiya community on October 27, 2024.
India and France share a long-standing and robust strategic partnership, with close cooperation in defense and security. INS Talwar’s visit to La Réunion underscores this bond and emphasizes the commitment of both countries to a secure and stable Indian Ocean Region.
Commissioned on June 18, 2003, INS Talwar is a key asset in the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet, operating under the Western Naval Command. The frigate is currently under the command of Captain Jithu George and recently participated in the IBSAMAR VIII multilateral exercise in South Africa, a collaborative drill aimed at enhancing inter-operability among the Indian, Brazilian, and South African navies.
